Missionaries of Charity (Peru)
Basic Necessities
Letter from the Missionaries of Charity - Peru
Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India in 1950. Charitable work by this organization is now active in 133 countries. In Peru, there are four homes (Lima, Juli, Cuzco, and Chimbote). These homes help over 500 men, women, youths, and handicap children. Further, the communities in these areas benefit from food programs for the poor. Missionaries help the poorest of the poor, including orphans, the elderly, people with various illnesses, schools for street children, homes for women, and AIDS hospice. In November 2012, Nyima Foundation gave a grant of $20,000 to help provide basic necessities to children and people in Peru.
