Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India in 1950. Charitable work by this organization is now active in 133 countries. In India alone, there are about 250 homes, according to Sister Madonia, at the Mother House in Calcutta. Missionaries help the poorest of the poor, including orphans, the elderly, people with various illnesses, schools for street children, homes for women, and AIDS hospice. In November 2012, Nyima Foundation gave a grant of $20,000 to help provide basic necessities to children and people in India.
